In march meta introduced a new ai chatbot on instagram that should help users to solve problems with their account.
And so it did. Problem is: it helped any user that asked nicely, to recover any account.
Hackers went immediately for high profile accounts with success, like the whitehouse account of the obama era, or u.s. space force chief master sergeant John Bentivegna.
All you had to do, is to ask the stupid ai, to send the recovery information to your email.

Some users reported, that even a 2FA does not prevent this, as the ai support bot can disable the 2FA.
It is currently unknown, how many accounts are affected.
