In a now published ruling (German) from a case already taking place in February 2026, a German court refused to issue an arrest warrent that was requested by German authorities based on an AI face recognition hit.
After a theft incident in a store, German national police authorities ran the video surveilance shots through an AI face recognition algorithm an had a hit to an already police known individual and they requested an arrest warrant on the German state court.
DENIED!
The judge denied the request. He stated, that he is not willing to provide an arrest warrant based on 'dubious' software where nobody knows how it works, while using undocumented algorithms based on unkown training data sources and undocumented error rates.
Seems the German courts currently are one of the last bastions against all the AI shit out there. It is going great for AI today.
